Topic Tuesday // Trauma and Recovery// Blue Knot Foundation // Tues 23rd February 2021, 8:00-9:00PM AEDT

Hello to our wonderful Lived Experience forum members and readers ๐Ÿ‘‹

This month we are excited to welcome the President of the Blue Knot Foundation, Cathy Kezelman, as our special guest for Topic Tuesday Live Chat Event on the topic of Trauma. Blue Knot are national leaders in supporting and empowering people who are recovering and healing after complex trauma.

Topic Tuesday will look a bit different this month as we are hosting two discussions back-to-back on the forums with the Blue Knot Foundation.

How will it work?

๐Ÿ”น From 7:00-8:00pm AEDT, we will start the discussion in the Friends, Family and Carers forum talking on the topic of Understanding Trauma and Supporting Loved Ones (use this link to join the discussion!).

  ๐Ÿ”น
From 8:00-9:00pm AEDT the conversation will continue here in the Lived Experience Forum talking about Trauma and Recovery.

Trauma and Recovery

Recovery and healing after complex trauma is a personal journey and looks different for each person. The SANE forums community holds a space where many stories of trauma and recovery are shared, including the journeys of  each person who is coping with the impact of trauma.  This discussion will focus on the impact of trauma for survivors, recovery after trauma, finding trauma informed support services.

Earlier this month we put out a call for questions on the topic of trauma contributing to the planning of this event. We want to extend a huge thank you to the many members who posted questions for this live event-  we have done our best to combine key themes and questions! ๐Ÿ’™

Please join us here on Tuesday the 23rd of February 2021 from 8:00pm-9:00pm AEDT to follow this conversation.

Hello everyone and welcome back @CathyBlueKnot and @girasole

For those that are joining us for the first time tonight, we have been speaking on the Friends, Family and Carers Forum about supporting a loved one who may be experiencing complex trauma. We covered questions including:

  • What is trauma?
  • What are the impacts of trauma?
  • How do survivors cope with the impact of trauma?
  • How is memory impacted by trauma?
  • How can we support loved ones when they self disclose?
  • What support is available for friends and family?
  • Top tips for supporting a loved one

For the next hour we will be shifting the discussion to focus on recovery and trauma.

I will re-introduce Cathy, our special guest, for those who might be joining us for the first time tonight:

"Iโ€™d like to thank you for the invitation to join your community tonight. My nameโ€™s Cathy Kezelman and Iโ€™m President of Blue Knot Foundation. Weโ€™re a national organization that works to empower people to recover from what we call complex trauma. Complex trauma is repeated usually interpersonal trauma (between people) such as violence, abuse, neglect or exploitation that occurs as a child, young person or adult or any different ages." - @Cathyblueknot Blue Knot Foundation Logo.jpg

We have packed lots of questions from the community into this live event, and the discussion may move quickly. We are also joined tonight by @Girasole, one of our Peer Support Workers here on the forums! You will see @Girasole offering support to members posting to this event, answering some of the questions themselves.
