The link above is to the World Health Organisation recent Guidelines for mental health services, promoting person-centred and human rights based care. The various documents available reference the importance of people with lived experience of mental health issues. I also found some interesting stuff in the reference list eg basal exposure therapy whereby coping skills are built and sometimes then medication can be reduced or withdrawn. Amazing content by the WHO, here's hoping these guidelines make a positive impact on the MH services available in Australia.

Thank you @Former-Member
It is somewhat reassuring that the World Health Organisation has guidelines as above.
Now we need to check within our own states whether or not they are aware of these guidelines.
I am going to ask my psychotherapist.
If every single forum member is prepared to speak to their referring doctor or mental health specialist about these guidelines; some professionals, somewhere, will listen and change can begin.
I believe that we can help play a big part in being heard.
I am not suggesting banners and standing on the steps of parliament house.
I am going to ask and I ask here and now, will you?
I would also like to see this information posted on the carer's side as often the carer is the one who supports their loved one when they are admitted to hospital.

Dear @Former-Member, I have been advocating for the human rights of trauma survivors for well over a decade, speaking to politicians and the medical fraternity for years. Post traumatic mental health has never been on the agenda for our mental health organisations. In the NDIS the PTSD sufferers are the least cared for. Last year I came up with a plan for Trauma Recovery Centres on the NSW South Coast. The federal government got a hold of my plan and liked it. The only problem is that we are in a disaster and it is no time to be building huge centres.
My plan for the Trauma Recovery Centres is cost-effective, community based and compassionate. It involves funding from the government and a charity linked to the centre to ensure that all services are free. I will even recommend that a shower and toilet room be available to ensure that the homeless can stay clean and healthy. All services offered will be rigorously assessed as to their effectiveness. Psychiatric treatment programmes related to trauma should also be included.
I hope this makes you feel good. Very soon a spokesperson will be speaking to the media to promote my concept.
It surprises me that no one has come up with such a simple plan before now.

Hello @Ripples
Well done in coming up with a cost-effective, supportive community based plan.
Are there any existing facilities that the government could look at utilising your plans?
Covid has created increased mental health. People with existing trauma and or other mental health symptoms need recovery centres. Their symptoms do not disappear just because Covid has taken first place.
Sadly when dealing with any government, even when something is accepted it easily gets placed aside when more pressing matters appear.
Community centres could be one avenue to be considered. Even if part of the programme is put into place this would create some support which is better than none.
I am a strong believer of speaking up.
Keep on poking your member of parliament. If that person is not showing interest there is always the opposition who occasionally are willing to jump on board in these situations.
Articles in local papers could also provide you with more support as a huge task for one person to be advocating.
Others can read and might want to join forces with you.
Good luck as is a much needed resource.

I am very encouraged by your initiative and the support it's getting! Congratulations on your progress. In my local area, there are medical support vans with doctors to assist people living on the streets, no ID not Medicare card needed for free services. Isn't this fantastic? Your trauma centres take the idea a step further, and the need for this kind of support is high as we all know. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Hi @Everalone, I just found this post so I'm tagging you if that's ok? I think changes are slowly being made to the medical and mental health sectors worldwide, finally!

Not sure who you intended to tag @Former-Member I will tag a few.
I only found thread due to stumbling on your post.
Good thread @Former-Member
It is a positive idea if it can be more than just airy detached talk.
New expensive initiatives are not the answer.
Wish I had heard more in media @Ripples
more than the current obssession gripping the medical profession.
To be able to talk to people without a medicare card ....
To be people focussed and move to solutions
To not pathologise ...
Great in theory.
WHO has its limits though.
